Representing Employers
Employment law is a complex area of law that evolves rapidly due to passage of new bills in Congress and state legislatures in addition to court interpretations of existing laws. When evaluating Colorado employment cases, one must look beyond the complexities of the laws themselves and consider federal and state statutes. For these reasons, it is essential that Colorado businesses retain the assistance of an employment attorney who is well-versed in the unique fields of federal and Colorado employment law.
With more than 24 years of litigation experience, Greg Givens is known for representing employers in federal and state courts and in claims before the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Colorado Civil Rights Division, the United States Department of Labor, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment-Division of Labor Standards & Statistics and the Division of Unemployment Insurance.

Commercial Litigation
Business litigation is expensive, time-consuming, and nerve-wracking. The stakes are always high when your business is involved in a dispute, and it is critical to have knowledgeable legal counsel to help navigate the complex and ever-changing landscape of commercial law.
Businesses of any size can face a number of different legal issues. From disputes with a partner to investigation by state and federal governments, it is crucial to hire a law firm with the knowledge, experience, skills, and resources to represent you and your business effectively.
Mr. Givens provides excellent representation for clients for breach of contact, business breakups, trade secrets, breach of fiduciary duty and duty of loyalty, fraud, unfair competition, debt collection, corporate partnership and LLC disputes, and interference with contractual relations or interference with prospective economic advantage.
Class Action
Class action and multiple-plaintiff litigation of employment-related disputes are being filed in record numbers and pose a significant risk to employers. Mr. Givens' substantial class action experience and extensive subject matter knowledge provide clients with sensible strategies to defend difficult lawsuits. A successful approach includes the following:
- aggressive early case analysis with a focus on evaluating the merits of the underlying claim(s)
- assessing the class issues and likelihood of class certification
- estimating the likely discovery issues and costs
- preparing damages models and potential exposure analyses
- considering the effect of litigation on the company’s finances, operations, reputation and competitive impact.
Mr. Givens is committed to analyzing the situation and providing you clear guidance when dealing with a lawsuit of this size, as the consequences could be disastrous.
Appellate Practice
Sometimes the end of the trial is just the beginning. Even with the facts on your side, judges can be wrong, juries can be fickle, and previous attorneys can act negligently. Our legal system provides a method of redress at both the state and federal levels through the appeals process. To successfully reverse an unfavorable outcome, or defend a hard-fought victory, clients need a lawyer who can preserve issues for appeal during a trial, decipher the legal issues that decided the case, and turn the focus toward the compelling points that will resonate with a panel of appellate judges.
Mr. Givens has a long track record of successfully representing clients in appeals before the Colorado Supreme Court and Colorado Court of Appeals, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment-Division of Labor Standards & Statistics, the Colorado State Personnel Board, the Colorado Judicial Department Personnel Board, the Department of Defense, the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Colorado Civil Rights Division.
